seeds of the reserve

This is actually a pretty good idea. I don’t know how well it will go over in the Services writ large (can’t imagine too many combat arms types would get approved or want to go in the first place) but as mentioned, certain gigs do lend themselves to such a situation. There used to be a similar program in the IC that lent people to industry for a year, but I think that was killed long ago.

Rare is the practitioner who hasn’t thought: “Man, if I could just take a breather.” An arrangement like this would be a nice way to avoid burn-out and allow people to acquire new skills, experiences and points of view; all thing that tend to atrophy or narrow the longer you stay locked in the cloister.

This is also a potential path to help build the intel reserve that no one seems to care too much about. No bennies save a token stipend, but a requirement to “drill” and to keep your skills up. Run it as virtually as you can and you’ve got a massive cadre of potential OSINTers (pros with access, skills and knowledge of PIRs - so you don’t fill the databases with crap) and a (U) Intellipedia that grows like the weeds in my front lawn.
