The subtitle of the story is: “From government to big business, if you have a dirty secret, Wikileaks is your nightmare.”

The question is: Beyond the “I just don’t like secrets” argument, absent a serious, robust mechanism for investigation and prosecution, of what use is such an effort?

Well, if you don’t mind a couple of movie metaphors, the public release of potentially explosive revelations has been a means of “street justice” since 3 Days of the Condor and as recently as Michael Clayton. While there isn’t any formal mechanism for inquiry, the Web seems to provide its own chaotic but arguably effective impetus for revelation, investigation, and change.
