This story was particularly interesting to me. Having been student there back in the day I was always amazed at how frequently illegals would interrupt our simulated meetings with sources. Then again, when your “secure” location is in the middle of a four-lane illegal highway what did we expect? We didn’t do anything to help them, but we didn’t run to the fuzz either. Of course, this was back when people crossing the border were interested in work, not ambushes.
UPDATE
AE points out that we might have an Emily Litella moment in the works.
Frankly, I hate reporting like this because it leaves you with more questions than answers.
The attack never occurred, but why? You are left to assume that there was no attack because there was no plot, but if that’s the case then why not say so?
The information was “bad” but does that mean outright false or just hinkey by someone’s subjective standards? Again, easy enough to say so, but they don’t.
I’ve never worked with an investigator (or a lot of analysts for that matter) who wouldn’t claim everything as “not credible” unless he was standing next to the one of the Spy vs. Spy guys with a detonator in his hand and wires running underneath someone’s car. Even then he might wonder if the guy wasn’t just trying to jump start the vehicle.
I’m not trying to kick off a conspiracy theory here, but Huachuca is where we’re training people to deal with insurgents and terrorists; the area around the base is a four-lane illegal immigrant highway; and there are numerous reports of coyotes bringing “Middle Easterners” across the border. If anything, the initial report was supportive of what we already know and would merit attention. If it was someone pulling a fast one, that’s great, but this tendency to wave a dismissive hand at things like this is just asking for trouble.

Actually I suspect an attack at Hoochie-coochie would be very successful. At least unless they’ve done serious upgrades in security since I did BNCOC there in ‘93 (which is probable, actually).
But it’s not like the military actually wants anyone on any base except the MP’s to be armed.
